About RAS

Richmond Alternative School is comprised of two fantastic programs that are on the pathway for success. The programs are:

•  Spartan Academy 
•  ISAEP

Spartan Academy is located at 119 W. Leigh Street and serves as a school to support students with academic, attendance and behavior challenges. Students are either recommended for placement through a panel process or principal’s referral. Students are considered for transition back to their home school after a minimum period of 90 days. Transition occurs twice a year at the end of each semester. Richmond Public Schools has partnered with Camelot Educational Services to support the needs of our students. Spartan Academy uses norms to operate the program. A norm is an expected behavior of a group. We use positive norms and positive peer pressure from the group in order to maintain a positive learning culture. All students are expected to promote a positive normative environment at Spartan Academy.

ISAEP, which is located off of Leigh Street, is The Individual Student Alternative Education Plan. This program is designed for those students ages 16 to 18 and enrolled in high school programs that are having difficulty finding success in a regular classroom environment. Included in Enrollment (but not limited to) are Career school counseling, mandatory enrollment in a GED preparation program, and Career and technical education.
